Dumas

South of Dumas, Big Blue Creek flows west to east and today feeds Lake Meredith. Comanches and Kiowas and other Indians before them once camped along the creek and also along Plum Creek.

Bison and Indians trails across the area served the Comancheros and also explorers, including Josiah Gregg in 1839, Lt. James W. Abert in 1845 and Kit Carson in 1865.
