After Quanah eloped with Weckeah and took
a war party of Comanche warriors and broke
off from the main tribe to raid and steal
horses, Quanah's band came through the area
now known as Snyder.
Quanah Parker's ties to Snyder
and Scurry County, Texas ...
The band subsequently lived in the vicinity
for about a year.

Quanah later wintered in the region while he was evading Philip Sheridan on his campaign to hunt down Native Americans to put them in camps in 1874-75.
Finally, Quanah Parker
befriended a buffalo
hunter by the name of
Josiah Wright Mooar
when they were both
older in years.
J. Wright Mooar, as he was more commonly known, had become a famous buffalo hunter when he shot and killed a white buffalo on October 7, 1876. He and Quanah had crossed paths when they were younger but never had a face-to-face confrontation. When they later became friends, they shared stories dealing with the times they knew of each other in their younger days.
