Snyder, Texas

After Quanah eloped with Weckeah and took

a war party of Comanche  warriors and broke

off from the main tribe to raid and steal

horses, Quanah's band came through the area

now known as Snyder.

Quanah later  wintered in the region while he was evading Philip Sheridan on his campaign to hunt  down Native Americans to put them in camps in 1874-75.

Finally, Quanah  Parker

befriended a buffalo

hunter by the name of

Josiah Wright Mooar

when  they were both

older in years.

J. Wright Mooar, as he was more  commonly known, had become a famous buffalo hunter when he shot and killed a  white buffalo on October 7, 1876.  He and Quanah had crossed paths when  they were younger but never had a face-to-face confrontation.  When they later became friends, they shared stories dealing with the times they knew of each other in their younger days.
